We are hiring: Content Development Specialists

We are currently looking for two Content Development Specialists to join our Content Development team in London.


If successful, you will be responsible for the assessment and development of Special Issues, and will work closely with the Content Development team, as well as the Marketing and Researcher Engagement teams.

The holder of this role will be responsible for supporting the successful selection and deployment of Special Issues (including liaising with Guest Editorial teams, Chief Editors and other journal Editorial staff), as well as their promotion once published. This role spans Operations, Marketing, and Publishing functions and requires someone who has an interest in working across all these areas.

 Applicants will have a strong work ethic with the ability to handle multiple priorities and respond quickly to changing requirements, always keeping key objectives and targets in mind when carrying out all plans and activities. In addition, they should be an eminently reliable team player that responds well to a varied workload and is excited about playing a pivotal role in serving our Editors and authors. 

At least 1 year’s experience in scholarly publishing is required, and an understanding of Open Science and the wider publishing and research landscape is desirable. Ideally, applicants will be educated to degree level with an interest in science or preferably a scientific degree or education.

Responsibilities

Assessment and processing 

  • Assess submitted Special Issue proposals based on certain criteria.

  • Aid in running the submission pipeline, moving proposals through stages, and communicating with Editorial teams as necessary.

  • Liaise with Customer Services on contact made to Special Issues inbox and answer questions that cannot be handled by Customer Services.

Nurturing and development

  • Provide guidance, advice, and support to Guest Editorial teams on how to improve their proposal and call for paper wording and structure.

  • Liaise with Guest Editorial, Journal Editorial, and Researcher Engagement teams to ensure the development of the most relevant and high-potential Special Issues.

Promotion and engagement

  • Work with Content Development Marketing Manager to develop ways to best promote published Special Issues.

  • Help devise new ways to increase awareness and engagement of Special Issues.

Requirements

A suitable candidate will ideally have:

  • A minimum of 1 year’s experience in the scholarly publishing industry.

  • A degree in a scientific discipline, or educated to degree level with an interest in science.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail.

  • A positive and proactive approach to problem-solving in daily tasks.

  • Able to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels.

  • A high level of computer literacy .

  • Knowledge of peer review and the publishing process.

  • An interest in Open Science and the wider publishing and research landscape.
