The pixel-to-pixel color-surface brightness map for all 58 galaxies in the sample. A total of 280,000 pixels are summed, then binned to produce the density plot of color versus surface brightness on pixel scales. The top panel displays all pixels above 25 mag arcsec−2, and the bottom panel displays only those pixels associated with H emission.
