The stress state of the supported rock masses during rockburst: (a) before support failure and (b) after support failure. σ1, σ2, and σ3 are the major, intermediate, and minor initial stresses, respectively. σθ, σa, and σr denote the tangential, axis, and radial stresses of rock masses near the excavated boundary. σs is the stress provided by the support.
