Effect of Sand and Sand-Lime Piles on the Behavior of Expansive Clay Soil

Figure 2

Used steps for preparing the expansive clay soil model reinforced with SP. (a) Placement of the TP and CHTP in the center of the Oedometer cell. (b) Removal of the CHTP and place the first clay layer around TP, then reposition of the CHTP over the first clay layer, and its slight compaction. (c) Removal of the CHTP and placement of the second clay layer around TP, then reposition of the CHTP over the second clay layer, and its slight compaction. (d) Removal of the CHTP and placement of the third clay layer around TP, then reposition of the CHTP over the third clay layer, and its slight compaction. (e) Extraction of the TF leaving a hole. (f) The hole was filled with sand/water mixture and compacted forming a sand pile. (g) Placement of the steel guide compaction plate. (h) Placement of the model under the hydraulic Jack to final compaction of the model. (k) Removal of the guide compaction plate. (i) The model was completed. (m) Filter paper was placed. (n) Upper porous stone was placed. (o) Loading cap was placed.
