Nicotine Suppresses Phagocytic Ability of Macrophages by Regulating the miR-296-3p–SIRP<i>α</i> Axis

<div>Nicotine increases the levels of SIRP<i>α</i> mRNA and protein in macrophages and suppresses its phagocytic ability. (a and b) U937-derived macrophages were treated with nicotine (0.5 and1.0 <i>μ</i>M) for 24 hours, DMSO as a negative control. The levels of SIRP<i>α</i> mRNA and protein were analyzed by qRT-PCR and western blotting, respectively. GAPDH serves as an internal control.
