Size Effects in Residual Stress Formation during Quenching of Cylinders Made of Hot-Work Tool Steel

Figure 4

Axisymmetric finite element model of a cylinder using quadrilateral elements with reduced integration. Surface mesh sizes of 250 μm/65 μm were used with cylinder diameters of 800 mm/100 mm; the cylinder diameters equal their heights. Two different constant heat transfer coefficients are considered for the lateral (HTC1) and the top surface (HTC2). is the circumferential stress component in the middle of the lateral surface at position P1 and is the radial stress component on the top surface halfway between the centre and the edge at position P2.
