Pathogenicity analysis in vivo. (a) Experimental challenge for bacterial dissemination in vivo. Healthy fish were intramuscularly infected with the same dose of E. piscicida and PBS (control). After 24 and 48 hours, the spleen and kidney of fish were collected, and the amount of bacteria recovered was measured. Data are expressed as mean ± SEM (N = 3), where N represents the number of experiments performed. (b) For the rest of the infected tilapia (30 in each group), a 20-day mortality experiment was carried out.
