Covering all surfaces of a microfluidic channel yields “artificial capillaries.” Human endothelial cells were cultured in a PDMS microfluidic channel and allowed to cover all surfaces. After overnight culturing, cells were fixated and actin filaments were imaged with confocal laser scanning microscopy. Top image is a pseudocolored top view of the microfluidic channel. The red line marks the section that was used to construct a front view of the channel (middle image). The bottom image is an isometric volume view of the same channel.
