Exercise-Induced Neuroprotection in the Spastic Han Wistar Rat: The Possible Role of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor

Mean distance traveled for (a) normal and (b) mutant rats treated with either K252a or DMSO () and subjected to a chronic exercise regimen (28 days). Activity testing was performed once a week over the 28-day treatment period. Repeated measures ANOVA showed that the decline in activity was not dependent on treatment. The genotype had a slight but nonsignificant effect on the activity as the animals aged. Values are mean SEM.
