Activity of Fosfomycin- and Daptomycin-Containing Bone Cement on Selected Bacterial Species Being Associated with Orthopedic Infections

Number of samples with the different growth of bacteria in the nutrient broth after incubation with test specimens of 0.5 g (a, d, g, j), 1.0 g (b, e, h, k), and 1.5 g daptomycin (c, f, i, l)/0.5 g gentamicin-containing bone cement. Bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213 (MSSA; (a), (b), (c)), S. aureus ATCC 44300 (MRSA; (d), (e), (f)), S. epidermidis DSM 8913 (g, h, i), and Enterococcus faecium DSM 13590 (VRE; (j), (k), (l))) were added at the beginning in a concentration of 103 or 106 to 10 ml of nutrient media. All controls (bone cement without antibiotics) showed confluent growth (not shown).
