Rapid Elimination of Blood Alcohol Using Erythrocytes: Mathematical Modeling and In Vitro Study

Figure 10

Dependencies of the rate of ethanol oxidation against the activity of the enzymes in a cell-free system. (a) For ADH study the incubation mixture contains ALD of 7.68 µkat/l, LDH of 288 µkat/l, 16−20 mM ethanol, 50 mM pyruvate, and 100 µM NAD+. (b) For ALD study the incubation mixture contains ADH of 38 µkat/l, LDH of 288 µkat/l, 16−20 mM ethanol, 50 mM pyruvate, and 100 µM NAD+. (c) The LDH activity was studied in the incubation mixture containing ADH of 3.8 µkat/l, ALD of 1.54 µkat/l, 5 mM ethanol, 20 mM pyruvate, and 100 µM NAD+. Experimental results (■) are presented as the mean values ± SEM (). Solid lines present the results of the mathematical simulation.
