Preventive CTLA-4-Ig Treatment Reduces Hepatic Egg Load and Hepatic Fibrosis in Schistosoma mansoni-Infected Mice

CTLA-4-Ig treatment leads to a reduction in total cell counts and CD4+ T cells in the spleens of mice. (a) Numbers of spleen cells were quantified using a CASY TT cell counter and ((b)-(h)) analyzed by flow cytometry (n = 6–12 out of 4 independent experiments). The percentage of (b) CD4+ T cells, (c) CD8+ T cells, (d) CTLA-4+ CD4+ T cells, (e) macrophages (Mϕs), and (f) dendritic cells (DCs) of viable cells was depicted. The mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) of CD86 expression on Mϕs and DCs was quantified. Data are represented as mean + SD from duplicate data.
