A Phenotypic Characterization of Two Isolates of a Multidrug-Resistant Outbreak Strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis with Opposite Epidemiological Fitness
Figure 3
The strains 410 and Mp showed different content of mycolates. Fatty acid and mycolic acid methyl esters (FAMEs and MAMEs, respectively) were derived from extractable lipids (a) and delipided cells (b) of Mp and 410 strains cultured in 7H9 supplemented with 0.5% glycerol, 0.5% bovine albumin, and 0.4% glucose without agitation until reaching the stationary growth phase. TLC plates were developed in the solvent system η-hexane : ethyl acetate (95 : 5) (thrice) and revealed with CuSO4 and heating.
