In rats with ischemic brain injury, electroacupuncture activates the mTOR pathway directly and by inhibiting PTEN; this effect is reversed by the mTOR inhibitor rapamycin. These electroacupuncture effects activate the expression of downstream S6 and SYN proteins to promote axon regeneration.
