In the training phase, intact photos of faces showing emotional and neutral expressions are given as input to the support vector machine alongside a label describing their expression. In the test phase, intact and degraded versions of faces are given as input to the SVM, and a decision is required regarding whether the face shows a fearful or a neutral expression.
