Cell proliferation rates calculated as the proportion of Hoechst-positive to EdU-positive cells in aposymbiotic (), recently inoculated (), and fully symbiotic () hosts. Ratios were calculated via quantifying the number of Hoechst- and EdU-stained nuclei in microscope images (per host) where gastrodermal and epidermal tissues could be identified.
