Anti-inflammatory Effects of Alcohol Are Associated with JNK-STAT3 Downregulation in an In Vitro Inflammation Model in HepG2 Cells
Figure 2
Interleukin- (IL-) 6 (a) and tumor necrosis factor- (TNF-) α (b) levels expressed by HepG2 cells were determined in cell-free supernatants. Cells were stimulated with IL-1β (1 ng/ml) and treated with low (LoD, 85 mM)- or high (HiD, 170 mM)-dose EtOH for 1 h (acute) or 72 h (prolonged). IL-1β stimulation resulted in increased levels of IL-6 and TNF-α, while EtOH exposure significantly decreased the cytokine expression. Unstimulated controls (-); IL-1β-stimulated samples (+). : vs. unstimulated controls, #vs. stimulated and EtOH-untreated controls.
