Plant iridoids and antibacterial activity. Iridoids consist of a cyclopentane ring fused to a six-membered oxygen heterocycle—Figure 3(). Within plants, they are most often bound to glucose as glycosides. The injectable drug Streptomycin (Figure 3()) which can be used in the treatment of tuberculosis is glycosidal in nature.
