Antiosteoporotic Activity of Dioscorea alata L. cv. Phyto through Driving Mesenchymal Stem Cells Differentiation for Bone Formation

Figure 4

Dispo85E stimulates osteoblastogenesis in bone-marrow-derived cells isolated from intact mice. C57BL/6 mice were fed with 0 mg/kg/day (vehicle control), 40 mg/kg/day, 200 mg/kg/day, or 1000 mg/kg/day Dispo85E for 5 days. (a) Expression of mRNA for different bone regulatory factors in mouse bone-marrow-derived cells was evaluated by RT-PCR. The amplified fragments were visualized on ethidium-bromide-stained agarose gels. (b) Cellular ALP activity and (c) nodule formation assay were performed as described in Section 2. Cells were stained with alizarin red S for osteoblasts and (d) the mineralized area was quantified using Meta Image software. **Indicates significant difference from control group at . for each group.
