Effect of NGF and sesamin on neurite outgrowth marker gene expression. (a) To investigate the gene expression time period of NGF induction, PC12 cells were stimulated with NGF at 20 ng/ml for 0, 24, 36, 48, 60, and 72 h. (b) To demonstrate the effect of sesamin, cells were cotreated with or without 1, 5, and 10 μM of sesamin and 20 ng/ml of NGF for 72 h. The mRNA level of neurite outgrowth markers (SYP and GAP43) was determined by real-time PCR. Relative mRNA expression was normalized using ACTB expression. Data represent the means ± SD of three independent experiments. compared with the control group; and compared with the NGF alone treatment group. SE: sesamin; NGF: nerve growth factor.
