BSHX protected bEnd.3 cells against AGE-induced apoptosis. bEnd.3 cells were exposed to AGEs and treated with BSHX (20, 50, and 100 mg/L, respectively) for 72 h. (a) Cell viability was assessed by MTT and expressed relative to the control group. (b) LDH release was detected with a commercial kit. (c) The effect of BSHX on the AGE-induced apoptosis of bEnd.3 cells was determined by flow cytometry. (d) Apoptotic nuclei were identified using Hoechst 33258 staining. Cells stained by the dye were classified as apoptotic cells (indicated by arrows in the merged images). Scale bar = 100 μm.
