Principle of gating. (a) Return loss of the system in frequency domain corrupted with multiple reflections from the RF connectors on the coaxial and the microstrip lines. (b) Time-domain response of the system acquired by inverse Fourier transform of the frequency-domain response. (c) When gating is applied to the time-domain response, only the desired echo remains. (d) By applying Fourier transform, the uncorrupted frequency response is found.
