High Glucose Aggravates the Detrimental Effects of Pancreatic Stellate Cells on Beta-Cell Function

Transplanted PSCs impair glucose tolerance and β-cell function in vivo. PSC-treatment had no effects on glucose clearance after oral glucose loading (a) or on glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (c) in Wistar rats. However, in contrast, PSC transplantation exacerbated the impaired glucose tolerance of GK rats (b), and the reduced levels of insulin secretion observed in control GK rats (d) were further suppressed by intrapancreatic transplantation of PSCs.
