Mean gonadosomatic index (GSI, %) as a function of sea surface temperature quantified using a generalised additive model (GAM). GSI was the gamma-distributed response variable and daily sea surface temperature (SST) was added as a continuous explanatory variable with a cubic regression spline. The blue and red ticks along the x-axis represent the SST of GSI observations from the northern and southern regions, respectively, and the grey band represents the 95% confidence interval.
