Lipase and Its Unique Selectivity: A Mini-Review

The hydrolysis of 4-methylumbelliferyl oleate (4-MUO) by lipase. When the ester bond of 4-MUO is hydrolyzed, oleate and fluorophoric 4-methylumbelliferone (4-MU) are simultaneously liberated. Fluorescence of 4-MU can be easily detected at an excitation wavelength of 320 nm and an emission wavelength of 455 nm using fluorometer.
