Time-Dependent Alterations in Rat Macrovessels with Type 1 Diabetes

Nuclear/cytoplasmic cross-sectional area. Evaluation of the electron micrographs demonstrated that the ratio of nuclear/cytoplasm area remained constant at the 50- and 100-day time points. At 150 days, the ratio significantly increased in the SMC from the diabetic rats ( ). The change in ratio was due to a corresponding increase in nuclear area and a subsequent reduction in cytoplasm area ( = 26–32 measurements/group for 50 day rats, measurements/group for 100 and 150 day rats).
