Structure and integrity of the purified RV VP6 and NoV GII.4 VLPs. The proteins were produced in a baculovirus-insect cell system and purified by sucrose gradients followed by ultrafiltrations of dissociated proteins as described in Materials and Methods. Electron microscopy images of reconstructed rotavirus VP6 nanotubes (a) and norovirus GII.4 virus-like particles (b) examined by a FEI Tecnai F12 electron microscope (Philips Electron Optics) at a magnification of 11 000x and 12 000x, respectively, after negative staining with 3% uranyl acetate, pH 4.6.
