A schematic of the absorption-modulated luminescence (AML) method applied to evanescent-wave fiber optic sensors. Two reference regions are placed between a sensor region and monitor light intensity in the fiber core. The sensor region absorbs light from the fiber in the presence of analyte, reducing the luminescence of the second reference region.
