Vesicular transport is the predominant mechanism by which essential biomolecules are transported. (a) This consists of synaptic vesicles, lipid vesicles carrying fat, such as chylomicrons, and exosomes containing essential tumor markers. MPI, being a nonradioactive and nanoparticle-based tracer imaging modality with persistent signal in vivo, is ideally suited to study vesicular transport mechanisms to provide functional information. (b) MPI tracers can be safely used to label RBCs and WBCs and will soon play a pivotal role in cell-based immunotherapies (MNP: magnetic nanoparticles).
