Pomegranate-Derived Polyphenols Reduce Reactive Oxygen Species Production via SIRT3-Mediated SOD2 Activation

Effects of SIRT3-augmenting polyphenols on glutathione antioxidant system. Caco-2 cells were treated with SIRT3-augmenting polyphenols (10 μM) for 48 h, and the amount of reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) was measured with the GSSG/GSH Quantification Kit, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Control Caco-2 cells were treated with the same volume of DMSO used for treating with 10 μM of polyphenols. Statistical significance between the respective polyphenol and control was determined by one-way ANOVA with Tukey’s post hoc test. Statistical significance was defined as (; ).
