Amifostine protected PC12 cells against glutamate. (a) Glutamate decreased cell viability of PC12 cells in a dose-dependent manner. PC12 cells were exposed to 5 mM–20 mM glutamate for 24 h (). (b) Amifostine restored the cell viability of PC12 cells exposed to glutamate. PC12 cells were exposed to different concentrations of amifostine (Ami) plus 15 mM glutamate for 24 h (). Cell viability was evaluated by MTT assay. Results are means ± SD, , , , and NS: no significance.
