Protective Effects and Possible Mechanisms of Ergothioneine and Hispidin against Methylglyoxal-Induced Injuries in Rat Pheochromocytoma Cells

Effects of ergothioneine (EGT), hispidin (HIP), and EGT + HIP on viability of PC12 cells treated with 30 mM glucose and 30 μM methylglyoxal (GLU + MGO). PC12 cells were pretreated with epalrestat (EPA), aminoguanidine (AMG), ETG, HIP, and EGT + HIP for 2 h and incubated with GLU + MGO or mannitol for 24, 48, and 72 h. Cell viability was estimated by the trypan blue dye exclusion method. Values (means ± SD of triplicate tests) without a superscript letter are significantly different ().
