Vascular aging and related diseases. The mechanisms of vascular aging include oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, telomere shortening, DNA damage, upregulation of SASP factors, NAD+ depletion, and progerin accumulation. Vascular aging is a pivotal risk factor promoting the development and progression of vascular aging-related diseases, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, vascular calcification, abdominal aortic aneurysms, Alzheimer’s disease, and stroke.
