Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor- Antagonizes LOX-1-Mediated Endothelial Injury by Transcriptional Activation of miR-590-5p

Figure 1

Preferential induction of Rosiglitazone prevented atherosclerosis in high-fat diet-induced ApoE-/- mice. Male ApoE−/− mice were subjected to high-fat diet with or without Rosiglitazone (2mg/kg/day) for continuous 10 weeks. (a) The body weight of mice in each group (n=10) was recorded at the end of 10 weeks. (b) Representative images of the cross-sectional aortic sinus stained with Oil Red O (scale bar, 100 μm). (c) The plasma levels of total cholesterol (TC) and (d) high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were determined and compared in both groups ( P<0.05). (e) Representative images of protein blots of LOX-1, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and in aortic endothelium of the ApoE−/− mice by Western blot. (f–h) Quantitative analysis of the protein levels of LOX-1, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and (n=4, P<0.05 vs. High fat diet group).
