Extremely Long-Closed Galls of a Social Aphid

Nipponaphis monzeni: (a) an overwintered tiny gall (on 12 March 2008) that was formed on the base of an axillary bud of Distylium racemosum in the previous year; (b) after the first winter such a gall has grown to a cone-shaped gall (on 19 May 2008); (c) several cone-shaped galls with the hardened wall (on 29 October 2007); (d) a full-grown gall with a round exit hole (on 8 December 2008); (e) secondary-host generation (apterae and nymphs) on a twig of Lithocarpus edulis (on 9 January 2008); (e) sexuals on the underside of a leaf of D. racemosum (on 30 April 2008).
