Cytokine production is elevated when ethanol + dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid is administered in wild-type mice. Prostates were treated with sterile saline (saline) or ethanol + dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (EtOH + DNBS) for 2 days. The inflammatory response was measured by monitoring (a) interleukin-6 (IL-6), (b) interleukin-1β (IL-1β), (c) keratinocyte-derived cytokine (KC), and (d) tumor necrosis factor-𝛼 (TNF-𝛼). Data are mean ± SEM of 𝑛=4–6 per group. *𝑃<0.05 for EtOH + DNBS versus saline.
