The sum score was defined as the sum of relative abundances for P. gingivalis + A. actinomycetemcomitans + F. nucleatum; groups were determined as follows: 1st quartile, 2nd + 3rd quartile, and 4th quartile; in Mann–Whitney U tests versus 1st quartile; in Mann–Whitney U tests versus (2nd + 3rd) quartile.
