Associations between TGF-β1 levels and laboratory biomarkers as well as the glycoprotein TIMP-1 in individuals with HbSS. Individuals with TGF-β1 levels above the median () exhibited increased (a) RBC counts, (b) hemoglobin levels, (c) hematocrit, (d) monocyte counts, (e) platelet counts, and (f) TIMP-1 levels, as well as (g) decreased albumin levels. All values were obtained by the Mann–Whitney test, except for TIMP-1 and platelet counts, for which the independent -test was used.
