Increased cost and procedure complexity with large-scale cell requirements. As illustrated multiwell plates or flasks are ideal for the expansion of small numbers of antigen-specific CTLs (<5 × 107). However, this system becomes ineffective for the expansion of large numbers of cells. In contrast cell bioreactors are ideal for the production of large cell numbers, but this platform is difficult to adapt and requires specialized equipment.
